Holy crap exotic car lovers, Tesla has opened a show room in Boulder Colorado. How cool is that? Well, according to recent articles in the Daily Camera and other publications, it’s pretty cool.

While the show room appears to be a temporary space until they can determine a more permanent location, currently, it’s chock full of Tesla’s to ogle, touch and beg the sales representative to test drive. I’m sure they’ll approve taking photos both in and out of the car, but test driving might actually be a little more difficult. I called the other day and was told that it was nearly impossible. I did explain to them that as a former owner of an exotic car company, that I as “Okay”. They didn’t seem to buy it.

I’m going to try and make a trip over sometime this next month, but I’m sure they still wont let me take one out for a drive. Instead, I’ll just relegate my visit to photo ops and asking lots of questions. Like how fast is it? How many kilowatts to the mile do you get? How long does it take to charge up? What’s the range on a “fill-up”?… all of those really important questions. I know, I know, I can go look all this up on their website or on any good respectable car web site, but I think it’ll be more fun to be standing there next to one asking the sales person.

What’s next for Tesla? Well, as I understand it, a four-door version is in the works and soon to be released. I’m hoping I can talk my financial advisor, AKA, my wife, into at least considering it as a next family car. I’m not sure it’s classified as a family car, but I figure anything that’ll seat three, which is all we need for our family, qualifies.

While I’m not a purist when it comes to the environment, I do my part. As a car lover, I have to think that when you can merge both worlds, environmental aware human AND car enthusiast, you have a winning combination. While most car enthusiasts are not usually considered environmentally friendly, the Tesla points us in that direction.

Now, where did I put that really long extension cord?

Cheers – Shane

A recent addition to the motorworks world is Devon Motorworks. Their design is something extraordinary and the engineering is superb. The attention to modern detail is extremely well thought out.

Enter, the Devon GTX Supercar. The GTX is about as cool as it gets. Some may not like the styling, some may not like the color scheme, but it’s one Viper killer and a whole lot better looking. For me, the jury is out, but this video convinced me I loved the sound. With a V-10 and a killer interior, it’s definately going to give the “Modern” American Muscle Car a run for their money.

Jay Leno and Justin, the head of the Devon Racing team looks the car over pointing out some of the features. My first impression was luke warm, but once they fired it up and Jay sits in it, my interest grew. Interior wise, it’s massive like the Viper and Vette, but a little more refined and the instrument panel concept is unique. Not finished, but you can see where they’re going.

I’m sure it’ll be a new addition to Jays garage, some day.

If there’s one car that is consistently beautiful, powerful, functional and down-right-perfect, it’s the Porsche 911 model of sports car. Nothing evokes pure sports car excitement and wonder than the site of seeing one of these bad boys tooling down a boulevard near you.

Next year, well, technically, this year, they’ll be shipping the newest version of the 2010 911 Turbo. For purist and anyone like my good friend, Tim, it’ll be the best all-round 911. While there are several variations, the 911 Turbo is the purist car for every day use, track use and general enjoyment.

With improved performance and efficiency, it’ll prove to be yet another success in the Porsche lineup. Even if you’re not a Porsche aficionado or even car for Porsche, everyone has to admit, they’re a formidable force to be reconned with.

2010 911 Turbo

What’s in store? Efficiency and Performance. THE Cornerstone of the 911 Turbo legacy is this combination of efficiency and performance. Displacement has been increased by .2 liters to 3.8 increasing the output to 500hp while decreasing weight making it more fuel efficient, yet THE most powerful 911 to date. With a top speed of nearly 195mph, it’ll be in the hunt for one of the best high-speed performance cars in the lower $100K price range.

It may just have to be my next Porsche . (Tim – want to go halves?)

Sports cars are automobiles that have the ability to generate high top speeds. They are generally light weight with a low center of gravity and possess powerful engines to propel them to high speeds. Aesthetics have formed an important aspect of modern sports cars as they are known for their sleek design. Rear-wheel drives are designed for more precise handling, an important need of these vehicles. However, there are other layouts available as well. Race cars are types of sports car but they are not an all inclusive type for example Lamborghini does not build racing cars and solely produces sports car for the consumer.

The history of sports car traces its roots to the early 20th century where touring cars were used in early rallys such as the Monte Carlo. The 3 liter 1910 Vauxhall 20 hp (15KW) and 27/80 PS Austro-Daimler, designed by Porsche, can be regarded as the first true sports cars, even though they were not called that. Austin with the ‘Seven’ and Morris Garages (MG) with the ‘Midget’ were two of the first companies to offer reliable sports cars.

Sports cars need to have precise handling and different layouts are employed to ensure that. The layout of having a rear-wheel drive with the engine at the front has survived in sports cars. Other layouts such as the RMR layout deployed by manufacturers like Ferrari and Lamborghini have the added advantages of improved handling and better weight distribution. In the RMR layout the motor is located in the center in the chassis behind the driver.

Porsche still uses the traditional rear-engine, rear-wheel driver layout that provides excellent traction but has the disadvantage of being more prone to over steer. Porsche has tried to add electronic aids to driving and intelligent designs, as well as features, to combat these problems inherent to the layout. The front-engine, front-wheel drive layout is used by some sports car manufacturers to provide the advantages of being smaller and light weight.

Four-wheel drive was not traditionally used in sports cars but after the success of Audi Quattro, the four-wheel drive has been adopted by many sports cars manufacturers such as Porsche, Lamborghini and the Buggati Veyron. These cars need high power hence the use of a four-wheel drive makes sense.

Sports cars have the advantages of reaching high speeds and acute handling but they usually fail as far as practicality is concerned. Most sports cars are extremely expensive and have a poor rate of fuel consumption, adding extra costs for the consumer. People who seek adrenaline need to pay a hefty price. Most sports cars are 2 seaters hence they are not practical for a family as well. Some of them have integrated small back seats which can be used for luggage or small children. The likes of the Mazda RX-8 can better accommodate extra passengers thanks to its two small backward opening doors. Lamborghini even flirted with the idea of placing the driver in the middle of the car with two passengers on either side. The idea was considered for the Lamborghini Miura but abandoned ironically for its impracticality. Increasing the seating room is one of the ways through which manufactures have tried to increase the practicality of sports cars. Sports car manufacturers have also looked to improve fuel efficiency and reduce prices to increase popularity. Car Transport Car Shipping

By Andrew Kosinski

When you don’t have much money, you may think that you are limited to having a used car that was in style during the Nixon years. However, this is not the case when you lease a car. In fact, you can get an exotic car lease through contract car leasing from dealerships in your area, without high costs usually associated with exotic cars. This is why so many individuals are looking for car leases that can help them get the cars they want at rates they can afford.

Want an exotic car? Then why not start looking at some Audi car leases? There are plenty of leasing companies on the internet that will offer you very favorable terms for your lease. With leasing companies on the internet, it is possible to get excellent terms and excellent rates, without having to haggle too much to get them. Many people will ask “Where can I lease a car?” Well, you can lease a car at a dealership, or through the internet. The internet gives you more variety, the dealership is easier for you to get to so you can see the car before you begin to lease it.

An exotic car lease can also be found through the paper in the classifieds. How can this be? Well, when someone begins a contract car leasing term, they will make their monthly payments. However, if they can’t make their payments, they will either default on the lease and face a financial penalty, or they will transfer the lease. Transferring the lease is where you come in. In leasing a car that someone had leased before you but could not afford, you take on the lease payments and you have a new car, while the other person doesn’t have payments anymore.

By searching for deals on the internet, or by taking on a car lease that someone else is offering because they can’t afford it, you can get excellent contract car leasing terms on an exotic car lease. It is possible to get what you want for a price you can afford, and it all starts with you finding the right deal on the right lease for the right car. Think of how impressed your friends will be when they see you driving an exotic car. They may think you paid an arm and a leg for it, but you will know better.

Want to save $100’s on your next car lease? BestCarLeaseInfo.com provides you with many free money saving tips and advice to make sure you get the best deal on your next car lease. Apparently, someone loves the look of a shark smiling and decided to make it into a car. I’m all for exotic, unusual and sexy lines, but this is down right ugly, in my opinion.

What did they name it? – VERITAS (I believe there’s a software package with the same name.) However, it’s Roman Mythology definition is “Truth” or was the name of the goddess of truth. Huh? This is a stupid name.

So, WHAT exactly is it? It’s a single seater sports car with no windshield and very, very ugly wheels. The front grill looks like a shark grinning. It supposedly only weighs like 1170kg, or 2,500 pounds. It also has an engine harvested from an M5 that’s been tweaked to over 600 horse power. This is insane for a car without traction control and NO safety features. So, in reality, it’s an “experimental” one-off car that should be controlled to drive.

Besides the fact that it’s ugly, I think the only reason it was made was to be novel. In todays world of craziness in car design and technology, it’s hard to set one model apart from another. It’s definately sets itself apart, but I really can’t see someone driving this thing around or even want to be seen driving this thing around.

If you love this monstrosity, then more power to you. If you’re the designer, it’s not hard to see how only YOU could love your ugly baby.

New exhaust, latest tire technology or would you add something to increase the horsepower?

If you’re like me, driving is a sport and driving fast isn’t about being an ass, but well, just driving fast and safe. However, there is a small problem when driving on the public roads at a quick pace. Law enforcement. My opinion is there is that most posted speed limits are for “average” drivers with “average” vehicles AND they’re meant to manage safety when there’s congestion. However, there are times and circumstances that dictate that speed should be allowed. Since I’m sure no one would ever agree on what those are or should be, we’ll continue to have posted speeds for the masses.

Until it’s ever changed, the best accessory they can add to their performance car is of course a Radar Detector. For me, I’d love to get one that has a lot of features and actually works. Or at least gives the driver enough time to NOT get stopped in time. I strongly believe it also takes alertness and quick thinking.

Note: If you’ve gotten stopped and are interested in getting the ticket removed, try checking this web site out. Beat Traffic Tickets!!

Every since Mercedes announced that the lack luster McLaren production has stopped, speculation and rumors flew for a while. For those who owned them, the trend to sell seemed to end. Why not, when a rare highly exotic car goes out of production, the existing ones value go up. Hm… Fords GT didn’t seem to fair that way, but maybe the SLS McLaren will suffer a better fate.

Well, a few months ago, spy photos of the new SLS started to emerge. Heavily guarded famous black panels and all, but Mercedes seemed to relish in the news leak and while trying to hide the general look of the front end, the rest of the car is easey to decipher. A few weeks ago, they let some reporters take the new 2010 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG for a spin at the famous Nurburgring and MotorTrend reporter, Arthur St Antoine had this to say.

MotorTrend posted an article just days ago regarding that first. Here’s an excerpt:

I’m barely three turns into my first lap, and already my brain has automatically activated its auxiliary data logger, the one reserved for “extra-special events.” I don’t want to forget a nanosecond of this. Partly, it’s a result of the venue. For the first time in my career, I’m driving on Germany’s 13-mile-long Nurburgring Nordschleife, a.k.a. “The Green Hell,” the most fearsome, challenging, and dangerous racetrack in the world. But my highly elevated pulse is also due in large measure to the screaming, whirling vehicle at hand. I don’t entirely know what it looks like — the prototype’s bodywork is still masked by tape and cardboard camouflage — but if these first few blitzkrieg corners are any indication, the all-new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG “Gullwing” is going to disrupt the supercar pantheon when it hits American roads next spring.

— Snagged only a portion 0f the article, read the rest on the MotorTrend site —

Fortunately, they also posted some pictures. Even with the disguises, you can see the basic shape of the car. This will be another car to watch and see what happens. So far, they’re suggesting the non AMG price to sit around $145,000 US dollars, so the additional AMG will probably shoot it up over $200K easily. We’ll see. Hopefully it wont be at the McLaren level and we’ll get to see a few more of these on the mean streets of a major metropolis near you.

The most striking new feature is of course, the doors. Mercedes hasn’t done a gull wing in a few years and with modern designs going in all directions, it’s cool to see a classic style come back. Love or hate Mercedes, they’re always innovating and coming up with new ideas, err, using old ones. Okay, still, Mercedes makes powerful, exciting and beautiful cars that make heads turn.

Looking past the black tape and cardboard, it looks a little more refined than the McLaren, which had the pointy nose. I hated that feature. With the release of the new E-Class and C-Class in recent months, they’re probably going with the more chiseled look. But that’s just pure speculation on my part.

As for the interior, not that exciting looking. Pretty standard Mercedes and carbon fiber galore. In fact, the tiny looking shifter that only has RND12 kind of scares me. I’m wondering if they installed their 7 speed automatic and there’s a C & S mode? As long as it has the Harmon Kardon stereo, the world will be right. No wait, if I want to listen the engine whine, I guess the HK might have to be turned down.

No matter your opinion, personally, I can’t wait to see the full unveiling. Until then, we can only look at these spy shots. (Looks a little like a SL65 AMG Black)

He drives his Toyota Tundra around and keeps it in a pretty filthy state. For guys like him, I wonder what happened? He’s mentioned on several occasions that cars don’t mean that much to him. I think he’s a great guy, but something must have happened in his “car” gene. I then think, what guy doesn’t love a great looking car? There are the rare few, like my friend, but for the rest of us, the “Car Gene” is alive and well.

For myself, I have to say, I liken myself as a general car guy. There are Porsche purist, like another good friend, that names will be left out, but he’s so hung up on Porsches, that he doesn’t even give other cars a second glance. There are Ferrari guys, Lambo guys, Lotus guys, Vette guys, Viper guys and the list goes on. Personally, I like all kinds of cars, but of course, mostly exotic, rare sports cars that are fast and have incredible handling. Looking back on my youth, my dad wasn’t particularly into cars and frankly, didn’t really take care of the ones he had. He trashed (and still does) more cars than I care to remember. So, for the rest of us, those that ogle and stare when we see an exotic car, tare through the magazines at the local super market, or surf all the exotic car background web sites, why do we love these Exotic Cars?

Frankly, I don’t have a general answer, but I know why I personally like them. I have several reasons and the top on my list is just how incredible they look. Cars are part of our every day life and the “regular” cars sitting in most peoples driveway are, well, boring. They’re safe, conservative and just plane ugly. There are a few that are nice looking, like most Mercedes and BMW’s are more popular than before and are nice looking, Mazda has some nice lines, Infinities are nice, Nissan and Hyundai have some good cars, but it’s that rare car, high-end, exotic sports car that is just so damn good looking. Sexy is usually the thought that comes to my mind and is my criteria. While there are cars with the title exotic cars, like the Lotus Elan and Noble, they just don’t have it in the looks department. The Elan, while rare and a cool old car, it’s quit frankly ugly as home-made soap (Sorry Elan owners). Now, I know good looks are in the eye of the beholder, but there’s nothing sexier than the Lotus Elise lines or a low slung Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Then, there’s speed. Raw power and speed to go along with the sexy looks. I remember in the 80’s the Countach were the cool exotic car, but the power wasn’t all that great. Now, Lamborghini’s, Ferraris and Porsche have exceeded such power limits that it’s staggering.

Combine a sexy looking car and the knowledge that it’ll move faster than the speed of light and you have one awesome reason to love it. For those of us that have the strong “Car Gene”, it doesn’t get any better than that.

For many, seeing an exotic car is an experience that is considered pretty cool. Seeing an exotic car in every day situations, like around Denver Colorado or in Longmont, where I live, it’s really sweet. Why, mostly because it’s an opportunity to see a great looking car outside in the “real” world, not at a show room or at a car show. Seeing it at a gas station, on the freeway, at a mall, at your every day shop or hang out is even better. There are some that think seeing it sitting outside a fancy hotel and restaurant is nice, but these are still expected to some degree. Seeing a Ferrari sitting outside the local mall or a Gallardo at the Target is just about as cool as it gets. Why, because they’re being used, driven in every day situations and others get to appreciate the opportunity to see and enjoy the car.

If you love cars and see an exotic car sitting out in an every day location, appreciate it and enjoy the opportunity to have seen something so cool. If you have a camera on your cell phone, and who doesn’t, take a picture, note the date and where it was, then upload it to a car spotting site like ExoticCarSpotter.com – if you take a photo at a car show, it doesn’t count. If you just want to see some cars in everyday traffic and around your town, go check the site out, it’s chock full of great shots. The oddest is a Buggati Veyron at a WalMart in Wisconsin. That’s a 1.6 million dollar car at a WalMart. Go figure.

The truth about seeing an exotic car out in every day situations is, it makes them “real”. It’s usually real people that have the opportunity to drive the car, own the car and in most cases appreciate the car. If you approach someone who’s filling their Gallardo or Enzo tank, say hi and be courteous. If they’re jerks, ignore them. However, you may find that most owners like people to appreciate the car and are usually pretty friendly. I’ve driven a lot of cars, both that I’ve owned and that others have owned, but have had the privelege to drive and I’ve always been friendly when approached.

Next time you see a cool exotic car sitting at the local Conoco, ask the guy/gal about it and see what kind of response you get. You might be suprised and better yet, they might let you sit in it an take a picture. Then you can post it on a car spotter site.
